Exploring the Middle East by Bike: Culture, Conflict, & Connection | Trailer
In 2022, I cycled solo through the Middle East, from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea to the heart of Saudi Arabia. The goal was to document stories along the way; to meet people in the places I was cycling through and understand the cultures, histories, and conflicts that shape this region.
I'd cross deserts, mountains, and a military occupation on a 6-month journey that would take me through Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.
This would be the most extreme and eye-opening cycle tour I'd ever attempted, but travelling by bike through the Middle East would give me a glimpse of an often misunderstood, or misrepresented (for better and worse) part of the world. Whether I was meeting locals fasting for Ramadan in Saudi Arabia, or Palestinian peace activists in the West Bank, I'd learn about everything from religious holidays, to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
The route would begin in Israel, before taking me through the occupied Palestinian territories and across to Jordan. I'd cycle the Jordan Valley South to the Saudi border, and attempt to cross the vast Arabian Desert to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital. Bike touring through the desert would present it's own set of challenges, with extremely harsh conditions as well as regional instability, but it was also a chance to learn about one of the most geopolitically, religiously, and culturally important regions on the planet.
Tieran Meets the World: Season 3 was filmed one year before the Israel-Gaza war.

    A long time ago, Cornwall was called Wales. What is now Wales was called the Welsh mountains. Unfourtunatey unemployment and depravity are widespread in Britain, these. days. Holiday homes and second homes should be illegal. 🤔

    Two points: (1) If a commercial TV company produced something like this it would cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, it would need a team of researchers, producers, directors, technicians, planners, insurers, laywers and ULTIMATELY you wouldn't get the real feel of the actual experience... (That two people can produce and present something better says a lot...) If this was COMMERCIAL TV, the presenters would pitch a tent in the rain and then retire to the nearest hotel!!! (2) The hospitality of the Irish people isn't exaggerated here. (Though I think the personable nature of our two adventurers goes a long way to engender that kind of friendliness and hospitality...) Irish people like the unusual. It's not WHY would you want to pitch a tent in my garden, but, erm, why might I object to that? That SOME PEOPLE said, "I don't suppose you'd want to use the shower as well, maybe do some laundry?" isn't untypical of rural Irish people. (Though I wouldn't try that in Dublin!!!) Absolutely brilliant presentantion and production. xx SF

    Hah. Just saw this. What an absolute joke. Your own people sold the properties in the first place. I've lived in Cornwall with a wealthy Cornish family and I knew plenty of locals very well. Theres a massive divide between Cornish born and bred landowners and Cornish peasants. Yes that's what I'm calling them. I have never seen such poverty in money terms and education. Wow , it was an eye opener. The almost complete lack of education was astounding. So talking about heritage and language in education against that backdrop is, quite frankly, ridiculous. Plus people of the Lizard don't consider the rest of Cornwall as Cornwall. So there's a divide within you. They (Lizard people born and bred) definitely don't consider Truro as being Cornwall. The biggest mistake you can make is to follow Wales and Scotland. Just take a long hard look at devolution. It's a travesty and a complete waste of money. You want more bureaucracy, crackpot legislation, and loads more highly paid officials. Go ahead. I've lived in England, Cornwall and Wales and it's the same everywhere the houses in nice locations, in posh ends of town and so on and so forth are out of the reach of many of us. I should know I've moved around all my life trying to find something I could afford to live in. Wake up, It's a problem everywhere. P.s I'm fed up of: we're Celtic , so we're different - rubbish. 64% of English DNA is Celtic. So are we not Celtic also. While we're at it let's make every region of England separate. When I was growing up, the region I came from, was never mentioned by anyone, anywhere outside of it. It was as if we didn't exist

    Two things the DDR did right: the eradication of poverty, and outlawing racism. Could they have done that without the Stasi, etc.? Probably, but there was also the fear on the part of Honecker's government that capitalism would spread like a virus (what corporations here in the US call "opening new markets") if the socialist experiment was not closely monitored.

    Today we are seeing the British mainland being invaded by foreigners, and watching the results in real time. The same people who scorned us for taking up arms to defend our country and our identity, along with our heritage and self determination, we'll those same people are now resisting THEIR invasion... The anger and derision they so often directed towards us, calling us terrorists and warmongers, is now being exhibited throughout Britain, by indigenous Brits who don't want their land being taken from them by people with no claim to it. Now they have _some_ understanding of what it feels like to be invaded, deprived of birthright, loss of jobs and resources, made a second class citizen in their own country, NOW they u derstand why we fought back when the invaders came and attacked us.

    Heres the true story Ireland - when we in the UK were being flooded from the 60s onwards with tens of thousands (now millions) of stone age africans and asians - you were left alone. And why? because you were too busy killing eachother in the name of 'nationalism' and 'religion'. Whilst all that were going on, the demons in charge were happy to leave you to it. Now that is all over - and its YOUR turn to get a taste of 'multi-culturialism' - And WHERE are your IRA heroes now? where is sinn fein? They are completely, 100%, on board with this cultural destruction of the country. They are bought and paid for by the WEF, The WHO, and the EU. And the irony is - they always were! The whole history of 'the troubles' from 1968 onward was an absolute scam, controlled by the demons in charge, to divide, mass murder and ultimately conquer. the IRA were a marxist/communist organization of criminal gangsters working for the elite who didnt care a flying fuck about ireland (and they just used as cannon fodder the dumb foot-soldiers who actually did) Now, theyve got their marxist/communist utopia and they are very happy, hence the deafening silence from them And its no different with the UDA. Another organization totally bought and paid for by the deep state. A 'protestant' gang commited to 'keeping Ulster british'' ! well - theyve got their wish! Northern ireland can now embrace the british multi-cultural society in full. And wheres the UDA in opposition to all this? again - deafening silence Youve been royally mugged Ireland. All those years of the 'troubles' - all that death and destruction, tens of thousands murdered, families and communities destroyed - all for NOTHING! and now here you are, taking your place at the table in the new world order, as it was planned all along. Good luck

    • @GerryAds
      @GerryAds 3 дні тому

      History and geography, not your strong points I take it. The “troubles” is not the history of Ireland. The troubles primarily happened in Northern Ireland which was then, and still is today, a region of the United Kingdom. More people were killed in England than in Ireland during the troubles by paramilitary activities. Of the 3,500+ people who were killed during the troubles, 1,114 were British security force personnel. So they were killing each other, British citizens killing British citizens. SF are not in Government in Ireland, but they are in a power sharing arrangement in Northern Ireland, a region in the United Kingdom. Have they managed to achieve their Marxist/Communist utopian State within the United Kingdom? You would know that better than me given that you live in the UK. But, as you are probably a British taxpayer, you are funding SF and their utopian State within the United Kingdom, enjoy.

      I find it hysterical Brits still dont know what's causing them to have to accept all these asylum seekers. The 1951 Refugee Convention was written with your help. Thats why your government is too embarrassed to leave it. Easier to just keep blaming Europe.
